Statement of CHR spokesperson, Atty Jacqueline Ann de Guia, on DepEd’s Senior High School Voucher Program

Education is essential in building a strong foundation for our future. It is necessary for progress and an important tool in empowering the youth of our nation.

The Commission on Human Rights lauds the Department of Education’s initiative to provide financial assistance to students in order to ease the cost of schooling. The Senior High School Voucher program is an opportunity automatically available to students who finished Grade 10 at public schools, LUCs and SUCs. We recognize that this program is a step towards accessible education. It is a move forward in ensuring that the basic human right to education is afforded to all Filipinos.

For years, families have struggled in sending their children to schools. Hopefully, this initiative will have a big impact on the lives of the marginalized, and provide for those who need more. Let us continue to strengthen policies like this that is truly for the benefit of the Filipino people. Let us ensure a brighter future for the next generations.
