Pahayag ni CHR spokesperson, Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, sa paggunita ng Health Workers’ Day

Sa ating paggunita ng Health Workers’ Day, ating ipinapaabot ang walang patid na pasasalamat sa kanila. Sa gitna ng pandaigdigang krisis sa kalusugan, ang ating mga frontline healthcare workers ang pumapasan sa isa sa mga pinakamabigat na responsibilidad—ang tumugon sa mga maysakit.

Bagamat higit isang taon nang nilalabanan ng mga health workers ang pandemya, hindi parin nakahahabol sa takbo ng panahon ang mga benepisyo at proteksyon para sa kanila.

Patuloy ang pagka-antala ng kanilang sahod at hazard pay na madalas ring ‘di sapat. Nariyan rin ang kakulangan sa supply ng personal protective equipment (PPEs) at iba pang medical equipment, maging ng medical staff sa mga ospital. Gayundin, laganap ang diskriminasyon at karahasan laban sa kanila dahil sa kanilang serbisyong ginagampanan.

Ngunit, kung tutuusin, ang mga kinakaharap na pagsubok ng mga health workers ngayong pandemya ay hindi na bago sa kanila. Matagal nang suliranin sa bansa ang mababang sahod at kawalan ng benepisyo, overworking, at kakulangan sa kagamitan at tauhan sa mga medical facilities, lalo na sa mga pampubliko at panlalawigang ospital. Sa araw na ito, bukod sa pagpupugay at pasasalamat, ay nakikiisa ang Komisyon sa mga Karapatang Pantao sa panawagan para sa mabilis at makabuluhang pag-aksyon sa mga daing ng ating mga health workers. Kung wala ang ating mga magigiting na doktor, nars, at iba pang health workers, mahirap isipin kung ano ang kahihinatnan ng bansa. Ang kagalingan ng lahat ay mag-uugat sa pagtataguyod sa kanilang kapakanan at mga karapatan. Kaya ngayong Health Workers’ Day, binibigyang diin ng CHR na maging ang kapakanan ng ating mga healthcare workers ay dapat pahalagahan. Dahil sa pag-ahon mula sa hamon ng Covid-19, dapat walang maiiwanan. ###
