National Speech Competition on Safe in Custody

The registration deadline is 01 December 2023, at 12:00 midnight.

Date of competition: 11 December 2023 (Monday)
Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Venue: Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines, PARDEC A and PARDEC B

There are a maximum of 15 slots available, and if the number of registrations exceeds this limit, the competition committee will evaluate and select the final 15 participants based on specified criteria.

To further enhance the participants’ engagement and message delivery, there is a hope-based communication briefing session online on 4 December 2023, Monday, in the afternoon (exact time to be confirmed). The briefing session is designed to provide participants with valuable insights and guidance on crafting speeches that align with hope-based communication messaging. This approach aims to inspire and motivate the audience and drive positive action.

The following criteria for participation in the Safe In Custody National Speech Competition:
✅ Participants must be university students in the Philippines, aged between 18 to 25 years old
✅ Each participant will be allotted a maximum of 7 minutes to deliver their speech
Speeches must be delivered in English
✅ Participants must be able to attend the Hope-Based Communication briefing session on 04 December 2023

Registration is open to a maximum of 15 participants

TOPICS FOR THE COMPETITION

Participants must choose from one of the following topics:
a) ‘Are confessions necessary in police investigation?’
b) ‘The impact of corporal punishment of a child on the wider society’
c) ‘Torture is never acceptable, even under a ticking-timebomb situation’
d) ‘What is the role of education in preventing and combating torture?’
e) ‘How torture on an individual can affect the wider society’
f) Transparency in police institutions can build more trust in society.

PRIZES

Three winners will be selected among the participants.

The Champion will receive Php 10,000.00
The 1st runner-up will receive Php 7,500.00
The 2nd runner-up will receive Php 5,000.00

The champion and the 1st runner-up of the Safe In Custody National Speech Competition will move on to the next level: the Regional Speech Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The champion and the 1st runner-up will compete with other champions from Thailand and Malaysia in January 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The organizers will cover all expenses, including round-trip flights, accommodation, meals, and other relevant costs for both the champion and the 1st runner-up participating in the Regional Speech Competition.
