Behind every empowered citizen is a teacher who first nurtured curiosity, courage, and character. On National Teachers’ Day, 5 October, we honour our second parents—those who have shown us that compassion and patience are not only acts of love but daily labours of dedication that shape lives and communities.
With the theme #Together4Teachers: Celebrating the Heart of Education, we celebrate our teachers’ passion, patience, and unwavering commitment to nurture learners and build the nation’s future. This year’s call emphasises unity and collective support for educators, recognising that empowering them is essential to fulfilling every learner’s right to quality education.
Globally, the 2025 World Teachers’ Day highlights the inherent collective nature of teaching through the theme, “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession.” This celebration affirms teachers’ central role in strengthening education systems and underscores collaboration—within and beyond classrooms—as a driving force for innovation and inclusion.
The Commission on Human Rights acknowledges the many challenges teachers face. We stress that teachers’ working conditions are inseparable from learners’ right to quality education. Issues, such as inadequate pay, large class sizes, job insecurity, and limited training, not only undermine teacher welfare, but also the State’s obligation to uphold this right.
We acknowledge and support the Department of Education’s (DepEd) efforts to honour teachers, promote teaching as a fulfilling vocation, and rally broader support in recognition of their lasting impact on Filipino learners. At the same time, we urge DepEd to further address teachers’ concerns and advance policies responsive to their needs. Providing teachers with the care, resources, and support they deserve directly strengthens the quality of education, while also helping improve the Philippines’ performance in international benchmarks, such as the Program for International Student Assessment and the Global Education Futures Readiness Index.
On this day, we express our deepest gratitude to all teachers. By standing #Together4Teachers, we not only honour their sacrifices but also affirm their rights, dignity, and central role in safeguarding every Filipino’s right to education.
