Announcement on the Karapatan Dapat Songwriting and Video Production Contest

TheCommission expresses its congratulations and gratitude to the winners and everyone who participated in the Karapatan Dapat Song Writing and VideoProduction Contest.

All submissions went through three rigorous levels of judging to ensure that the best entries were chosen for the prizes. The first level, which assessed the entries based on artistic merits and relevance to the theme, was composed of a panel which included artists and experts from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The second level, which evaluated the screened entries for their substance and Human Rights content, was composed of representatives of selected units within the Commission. The final level, to which the shortlist of entries was submitted, was composed of the Commissioners.

The winners for the Song Writing category were announced and awarded on 7 December 2018 during the Alab ng Puso Concert held at Eton Centris, Quezon Avenue, Quezon City.

For theVideo Production category, no entries were deemed qualified for the prizes after the first level of screening. This was due to either the theme of the contest not having been properly presented in the films, or, to not meeting the technical and artistic criteria for selection.

The Rules of the contest state that:

12. …The Board of Judges shall have the discretion not to award any prize if, in its judgment, no meritorious entry has been submitted.

The Commission shall however be considering recognizing the efforts of some entries in the Video Production category for Honorable Mention.

We are heartened by the overwhelming response to this advocacy contest. Again, our utmost gratitude to all those who joined and chose to utilize their talents to create music and video materials that seek to inspire courage for everyone to stand up for the dignity and human rights of all.
