CHR spearheads the 2024 National Human Rights Consciousness Week, a celebration of human dignity and empowerment

Dignidad, Karapatan, at Kalayaan — Ipagdiwang!

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR), together with the inter-agency committee, proudly kicks off the 2024 National Human Rights Consciousness Week on 04 December 2024 at the Liwasang Diokno, CHR Central Office.

This year’s theme, “Empowering Humanity: Upholding Dignity, Protecting Rights, and Promoting Peace,” serves as a rallying call for a national celebration highlighting the importance of human rights in building a just, peaceful, and humane society.

Adding to the excitement of this year’s celebration, the CHR will launch the CHR Contact Poster, an initiative aimed at expanding access to human rights services and enhancing grassroots accessibility nationwide. As a tool to complement the CHR MISMO digital platform, this initiative aligns with the week’s theme to bridge digital divides and ensure inclusivity for individuals and communities with limited internet access.

In continuing the tradition of collaboration and partnership, this year’s celebration exemplifies once more an inter-agency effort—bringing together government agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders in collective pursuit to advance human rights in the country.

CHR Chairperson Richard P. Palpal-latoc emphasized the importance of these activities, stating, “This celebration underscores our shared responsibility to protect and promote human rights. By working together, we strengthen our commitment to uphold the dignity and rights of every Filipino, fostering a culture of peace and inclusivity.”

This week-long celebration is filled with impactful and engaging events that highlight the significance of human rights across all sectors:

December 4: CHR-CSC Learning Session on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Rights in the Work Environment

December 6: CSO Forum with Human Rights Defenders, Labor, and the Environment (AM Session); and CSO Forum with Youth and Older Persons (PM Session)

December 10: Diplomatic Reception and Partners Summit

A grand culmination night will also take place on 10 December 2024, marking the celebration of International Human Rights Day and the 76th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This special event will shine a spotlight on the 2024 Gawad Karapatang Pantao, an awarding ceremony recognizing exemplary individuals and organizations whose efforts have significantly advanced the promotion and protection of human rights in the Philippines.

The CHR calls on all Filipinos to actively participate in this momentous celebration—both in spirit and in action—as a resounding affirmation of the enduring importance of human rights for all. This event is not just a commemoration but a call to action to champion dignity, equality, and peace.

Together, let us build a future where every Filipino thrives to respect and protect the rights of all—SAAN MAN, KAILAN MAN, MAGING SINO KA MAN. ###
