Mensahe ng CHR Spokesperson, Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, sa pagdiriwang ng Araw ng Kagitingan

Nakikiisa ang Komisyon sa mga Karapatang Pantao sa pagdiriwang ng ika-78 Araw ng Kagitingan ngayong ika-9 ng Abril 2020. Bigyang-pugay natin muli ang mga beteranong lumaban para sa kalayaan at kaligtasan ng bayan noong panahon ng World War II. Ang kanilang katapangan, kahandaang mag-sakripisyo, at mag-alay ng buhay ay mga katangian na nananalaytay sa mga kasalukuyang bayani ng ating bayan.

Sa gitna ng krisis sa kalusugan, maihahalintulad ang giting at tapang ng mga frontliners sa mga bayani noong panahon ng digmaan. Sa kabila ng panganib na dulot ng coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), sila ay matapang na nag-se-serbisyo at nag-sa-sakripisyo araw-araw.

Bilang pagtalima sa kahulugan ng araw na ito, ipakita natin sa konkretong paraan ang ating pagpupugay sa mga bayani noon at ngayon. Huwag natin sayangin ang kanilang mga sakripisyo at gawin ang ating bahagi para malabanan ang COVID-19—sumunod sa social distancing at hygiene practices; tumulong sa mga kababayang kapuspalad; mag-volunteer sa mga iba’t ibang inisyatiba; magbahagi ng tama at makabuluhang impormasyon; i-report ang mga pang-aabuso at katiwalian; at marami pang iba.

Tayong lahat ay maaaring maging bayani at makipagbayanihan sa ating simpleng paraan para maitaguyod ang karapatan at dignidad ng ating mga kapwa Pilipino. Katulad ng mga nagdaang pakikibaka ng ating bayan, kapag pinagsama-sama ang mga kabutihan at sakripisyo ng bawat isa, mapagtatagumpayan natin ang kasalukuyang hamon sa kalusugan.
