Statement of CHR Commissioner, Gwendolyn Ll. Pimentel-Gana, on the celebration of World Mental Health Day 2021

World Mental Health Day, celebrated every 10th of October, is dedicated to promoting the understanding of mental health education, awareness, and advocacy. It’s important to raise awareness of mental health conditions and ensure that communities recognize the part each person has to play in creating a mentally healthy society.

Now, more than ever, we are seeing just how much mental health can affect a person’s whole life—from their home to the workplaces or schools. The pandemic and the resulting economic uncertainties have indeed variedly affected many people’s mental health. Thus, the need for meaningful support in the community has become even more relevant as we are navigating through these challenges.

Aptly themed, Mental Health Care for All: Care for Yourself and Care for Others, we are all reminded that we deserve good mental health and mental health is everyone’s business.

We encourage you to participate in the various activities of Mental Health advocates and organizations. More importantly, we encourage you to make a commitment to take care of yourself and make a commitment about the role you can play in supporting people around you, whether it’s a friend, family member, colleague, or a neighbor. #MentalHealthMatters #YouMatter

#MentalHealthMatters #YouMatter
