Statement of CHR Spokesperson, Atty Jacqueline Ann de Guia, on the grenade throwing incident at the house of Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez in Cagayan de Oro

The Commission on Human Rights strongly condemns the grenade throwing incident which happened at the residence of Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez in Cagayan de Oro this morning, 29 September 2021.

Although no one was injured, the Commission expresses alarm over the threat against the personal safety and security of an elected official and his family in the most despicable manner. Apart from endangering the lives of residents, such violent incident desecrates the sense of peace and security that every individual has the right to enjoy within the safety of his/her/their own home.

The CHR supports the plea of the family that justice must be served to hold perpetrators accountable from this act of cowardice and intimidation. ###
