Statement of CHR spokesperson, Atty Jacqueline Ann de Guia, on the Zamboanga City mosque blast

The Commission on Human Rights strongly condemns another episode of senseless attack against civilians with the bombing of a mosque in Zamboanga City. It is alarming that this incident happened just days after Jolo, Sulu suffered from twin bombings at a Catholic cathedral. These acts of terrorism is an affront to the dignity of every Filipino and go against every fibre of a peace-loving nation.

As such, we urge the government to make all perpetrators accountable and prevent similar incidents from happening. CHR-Region IX is conducting a motu proprio investigation on this incident.

We extend our sympathies to all families and friends of all the victims in this trying time, as we hope that these waves of violence does not spoil our vision for a just and lasting peace. ###
