Statement of the CHR spokesperson, Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, on CHR’s monitoring of 2019 SONA protests

We observed that the protest actions staged for the 2019 State of the Nation Address have been generally peaceful. No major incidences of concern have been reported. Protesters were able to exercise their right to peacefully come together to express support and/or criticise government position over legitimate concerns. We hope such discipline in observing human rights standards be equally applied to other aspects of governance. ###
