Statement of the Commission on Human Rights on the dismissal of the police officer involved in the case of the missing beauty queen in Batangas City

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has taken note of recent developments in the case of Batangas City’s missing beauty queen. This is in connection with the dismissal of Police Major Allan De Castor, the alleged suspect in the disappearance of beauty queen Catherine Camilon. Camilon has been missing since October of last year.

According to reports, Calabarzon police chief PBGen Paul Kenneth Lucas confirmed De Castro’s dismissal effective 16 January 2024.

We acknowledge the progress of this case as it serves as a reminder of the government’s proactive commitment to the pursuit of justice and accountability, particularly in this case. We also recognise the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) efforts to take concrete steps to conduct an effective and impartial investigation of this case.

In light of the ongoing investigation, it is critical that we remind PNP members to uphold the mantra “To Serve and Protect.” This reminder is intended to reinforce the public’s trust in the PNP and its mission to serve the community while upholding the highest ethical standards and respect for human rights.

The Commission calls for a prompt resolution and just administration of this case. We are one with the government and all relevant stakeholders to unveil Ms. Camilon’s whereabouts and ensure that justice prevails.###
