Statement of the Commission on Human Rights on the decision of the House of Representatives to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise application

It is with concern that the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) notes the denial of the franchise of ABS-CBN, the biggest broadcasting media outlet in the country. Statement of the Commission on Human Rights on the “ampon” joke in ABS-CBN’s “It’s Showtime”

The Commission advises everyone, especially the entertainment sector, to refrain from promoting discrimination against, or perpetuating the stigmatisation of, persons, especially those brought about under special circumstances of less privilege. We call on “It’s Showtime” to be more responsible in providing entertainment.  Being funny at the expense of people under less favourable circumstances is inhumane and cruel. ■ DOWNLOAD FILE HERE
