The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) welcomes the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office’s speedy investigation and filing of murder charges against the suspected perpetrators of the shooting of radio commentator Federico “Ding” Gempesaw. On 29 June 2022, the radio reporter was shot in broad daylight in front of his home in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City. Gempesaw hosted the block-time radio program “Bitayan sa Kahanginan” (Gallows On-Air) on Radyo Natin and is known as a hard-hitting commentator. The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) strongly condemns the physical assault against radio broadcaster Florencio “Flo” Hervias on 07 October 2022. Initial reports reveal that a group of masked men, who allegedly pretended to be sanitation workers, mauled Hervias in broad daylight after leaving his workplace in La Paz District, Iloilo City.
