Press Release of the Commission on Human Rights
On the Statement of Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella on Extra-Judicial Killings
addressed to the European Union

On 2 April 2017, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella cited before the media that the Commission on Human Rights had stated that the spate of extra-judicial killings were not state-sponsored.

The CHR wishes to reiterate and emphasize that it has yet to arrive at a conclusion on whether the spate of extra-judicial killings in the country in recent months is state-sponsored or not.

Thus, the Commission calls on officials from the Office of the President to refrain from continuing to misrepresent the position of the CHR concerning its investigation on extrajudicial killings.

The CHR hopes that this matter has been clarified once and for all. Everyone is encouraged to await the results of its initial investigation, a Report on which will be released soon. Further questions may be directed to the CHR Press Office through Atty. Jacqueline Ann C. de Guia, OIC, Public Affairs and Strategic Communication Office at (02) 928-5792 / 09175919833 or at comms.chr@gmail.com.
