Statement of CHR spokesperson, Atty Jacqueline Ann de Guia, on the recent Social Weather Stations survey results on the net satisfaction rating of the national administration

The Commission on Human Rights notes the results of the December 2018 survey of the Social Weather Stations reporting the Filipinos’ satisfaction with the performance of the National Administration, as well as on specific performance subjects, including protecting human rights, promoting women’s rights, fulfilling commitments in international treaties, as well as ensuring that no family will ever be hungry among others.

We hope that the government can match this positive outlook with concrete measures that will truly uphold the rights and dignity of all. In the end, every government action should contribute to the fulfilment of everyone’s human rights, such that fighting crimes and terrorism contributes to our right to safe environment; building and maintenance of public works, such as roads, realises our right to freedom of movement; and transparency in government activities, as well as eradicating graft and corruption, ensures that we can make the government accountable for violations of its obligations, such as protecting our fundamental right to life, should it fail in fulfilling them. Let these surveys push the government to do better in upholding its duty to promote and protect the rights of every Filipino and be reflections of what it needs to improve on.
