Pahayag ng tagapagsalita ng CHR, Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, sa mga banta na tatanggalin ang scholarship ng mga estudyanteng sumusuporta sa New People's Army

Scholarships are granted by the government but they are ultimately funded by the tax payers. Criticisms on governance and to demand redress for such as entitlements of the people in a democracy is guaranteed by our Constitution. These should not be used as basis to strip off deserving students access to education through scholarships. It is also equally important to recognise the people’s right to self-organisation and freedom of association for as long as they are within the bounds of law.

The Commission on Human Rights reminds the government of its obligation to serve the people—not the other way around. As such, it is important to continuously seek ways on how to improve access to education envisioned to hone critical, productive citizens meant to benefit the entire nation.
