The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) welcomes the appointment of Atty. Richard Paat Palpal-latoc who will sit at the helm of the CHR Commission en banc VI as its new Chairperson.
Chairperson Palpal-latoc, 48, will serve a full seven-year term from 2022 to 2029. The term of the previous Commission ended on 5 May 2022.
Ang kanyang appointment paper ay nilagdaan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. noong 15 Setyembre 2022.
CHR Executive Director, Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, together with the rest of CHR directors from its Central and Regional Offices and other officers met with Chairperson Palpal-latoc on Tuesday, 27 September 2022.
Bago ang kanyang appointment sa CHR, si Chairperson Palpal-latoc ay nagsilbi bilang Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs sa ilalim ng Office of the President.
Noong 2020, itinalaga siya bilang Assistant City Prosecutor sa Office of the City Prosecutor sa Quezon City.
Sa pagbangon mula sa hanay, siya ay nagsilbi rin noon sa gobyerno sa iba't ibang mga kapasidad, kabilang ang bilang isang abogado sa Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office IV-A at ilang mga posisyon sa ilalim ng Office of the Ombudsman, partikular na bilang Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer bilang kanyang huling posisyon sa nasabing tanggapan.
Si Chairperson Palpal-latoc ay mayroon ding matatag na karera sa pribadong pagsasanay. Isa siyang trial lawyer at partner sa Rodriguez Esquivel Palpal-latoc Law Firm.
Siya ay alumnus ng Unibersidad ng Santo Tomas—Philosophy (1995) at Bachelor of Laws (2001)—at tinanggap sa Bar noong 2002.
CHR looks forward to the direction of the institution under Chairperson Palpal-latoc’s leadership. Marking its 35th year, Chairperson Palpal-latoc assured further strengthening CHR, particularly its mandates on human rights protection, promotion, policy, and prevention, to create a lasting legacy and meaningful impact in the lives of each and every Filipino.
He signified strong desire to expand the Commission’s work in the arena of economic, social, and cultural rights, alongside his core advocacies in upholding the rights of families, children, and women. ###
