Statement of CHR Spokesperson, Atty Jacqueline Ann de Guia, on the fatal stabbing of a female news anchor in Lanao del Norte

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Region X is proceeding with its independent investigation of the brazen killing of a media worker in Lanao del Norte.

Based on police report, Audrey Gaid Estrada, a radio news broadcaster for 101.3 Grace Covenant FM in Barangay Poblacion, Bacolod town was found with multiple stab wounds inside her home on Thursday, 17 March 2022.

CHR notes the effort of the local government of Bacolod to resolve the case through a reward offer for those who could provide information. We look forward to further actions from the Bacolod Municipal Police Station, the Philippine National Police and its Media Security Vanguard, and the Presidential Task Force on Media Security towards the resolution of this case.

As in all similar cases, we reiterate the importance of ensuring urgent justice to deter further violence and curb impunity. We strongly denounce this heinous attack against a media worker and a vulnerable widow. CHR’s call remains #StopTheKillings.
